Digicon replaced the wooden boxes with steel plates that were used to pack its access controllers, like dTower, Catrax Go Uno and Go Duo, for a highly resistant corrugated cardboard.
Despite being heavy, Digicon’s access controllers need a safe packaging for its storage and transport. The goal is to make the production processes more sustainable, so Digicon searched an alternative to avoid the disposal of materials that cannot be reused. Also, these packages needed to be easy to assemble, optimizing the transport and lowering the risks for the employees.
Intelligent and Sustainable solution
The solution found by WestRock, Digicon’s partner since 2019, was the usage of a highly resistant corrugated cardboard, able to support 35kg (77lbs) access controllers. It is important to note that the new packages are sized accordingly to the product, protecting against impacts and vibrations, which makes the packages safer.
These new boxes are biodegradable and recyclable and there is no need of fumigation, a requirement in the Agriculture Ministry. These modifications made Digicon a more sustainable company and lowering logistic costs, since the new boxes are lighter. This material’s assembling process is also easier.
Another important factor in the modification of the packages was the image of the product. “The new solution also made the presentation more clean and informative, also facilitated the wrapping process, that used to be complex and a lot of materials were needed. The new package is also lighter, which contributes to the ergonomics and it is easier to handle”, says Filipe Lemes Nunes, Digicon’s product manager.
New pallets
Besides the packaging, WestRock also supplies Digicon with corrugated cardboard pallets. These pallets replace the wooden ones, improving space usage and easing the storage and disposal. These pallets take up to two tons and can be moved supporting more than 600kg (1.322,77lbs).
