Intelligent Traffic Lights in Porto Alegre

The confluence of Avenida Dr. Nilo Pecanha with Carazinho Street, due to the large influx of cars that pass through this area, has always been a chronic problem in the transit of Porto Alegre. A traffic circle was applied to the site in an attempt to reduce traffic congestion in the region. The measure did not have the desired effect and the population grew impatient.

In March 2011, Digicon presented an effective solution to improve the fluidity of the process and thus improve users’ quality of life. Intelligent Controlled Traffic Lights, with Virtual Vehicle Detection.

Basically, the system identifies the number of cars coming to light using cameras and calculates the best way to manage traffic, fostering greater fluidity along most congested routes and allowing an improvement of up to 70%. The results exceeded initial expectations and ensured new life to the neighborhood, while also reducing traffic jams and providing safer crossing for pedestrians.
